DSTU V 4103-2002
In Ukraine, classes of body armor are defined in accordance with DSTU B 4103-2002 (Personal Protective Equipment, Body Armor, General Technical Conditions), which was adopted in 2002 by the State Committee of Ukraine for Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy and developed by the Institute of Materials Science Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Body armor is conventionally divided into three types according to its design:
- TYPE A – soft (flexible) body armor with a protective structure based on special fabrics.
- TYPE B – semi-rigid body armor of differential protection class with a basic protective structure based on special fabrics and additional rigid protective elements.
- TYPE B – rigid (or semi-rigid) body armor with a protective structure based on rigid protective and shock-absorbing elements.
Body armor is divided into nine classes according to its resistance to destructive agents. The characteristics of the classes are shown in the table.
